The Maharashtra government has decided to give a compensation of Rs three lakh to the mother of Khwaja Yunus, an accused in the 2002 Ghatkopar bus blast, who died in police custody in Mumbai. The decision to give the compensation to Aasiya Begum was conveyed to the Bombay High Court by the government on Wednesday.
In a relief to ten police officers, the Bombay high court on Tuesday rejected a plea to prosecute them for the custodial death of POTA detainee Khwaja Yunus in 2003, but increased by Rs 17 lakh the compensation amount to be given to his mother Aasiya Begum.
The National Investigation Agency arrested Waze on Saturday night in connection with its probe into the recovery of a Scorpio containing 20 gelatin sticks near Mukesh Ambani's home on February 25.
Reinstated in service in June 2020, he was handling several high-profile cases, including the TRP rigging scam, fake social media followers case and a car scam involving Dilip Chhabria.

Earlier, the Bombay high court, which is hearing a petition on the Yunus case, had instructed the state DGP to file the chargesheet in the case.
Moving the court of Justices Ranjana Desai and Dilip Bhosale, Harish Bhalchandra Vichare's lawyer C U Singh said, "He (Vichare) has vital information about the incident in question and wants to give the information to state CID."
The court also adjourned to March 14 bail plea of Nayak, held on charge of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Apparently as a fall out of the Bombay high court's directive to transfer the police officers related to Khwaja Yunus' alleged custodial death, two police officers related to the case have been transferred out of Mumbai, along with 8 policemen
Waze was arrested from his Thane residence. The CID will produce him before a court in Ahmadnagar soon.
A 1990-batch officer of the Maharashtra cadre, Waze, also known as an "encounter cop", was earlier suspended after his arrest by the National Investigation Agency in the SUV-cum-murder case on March 13.
The Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court on Wednesday that it would not appoint a new special public prosecutor in the Khwaja Yunus custodial death case till October 14.
Sayed Khwaja Yunus Khwaja Ayub, an accused in the Ghatkopar bomb blast case, had escaped on January 7 when he was being taken in a police jeep to Aurangabad.
Four persons, accused of planning and executing the bomb blast in a BEST bus on December 2, have been remanded to police custody till January 17.
"This whole incident of Waze's activities and controversies thereafter taught a lesson to the MVA government. It was good in a way that it happened and taught us some lessons," the Sena's chief spokesperson said.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze Saturday night after questioning him for 12 hours over the recovery of an explosive-laden vehicle near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, an agency spokesperson said.
The NIA, which arrested Waze (49) on Saturday night, brought him to the court in south Mumbai after taking him to a local hospital for his medical examination, an official said.
