A 39-year-old man was killed in Kadakkal, Kerala, after being attacked by a gang. Police are investigating a possible revenge motive and have taken two people into custody.
The display of RSS founder KB Hedgewar's portraits during a temple festival in Kollam district has sparked controversy in Kerala, prompting the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to request a report from its vigilance wing. The images of Hedgewar were reportedly displayed along with the photos of prominent social reformers like Sree Narayana Guru and B R Ambedkar during Kollam Pooram festival here on Tuesday night. TDB sources said the management of Puthiyakavu Temple, a local shrine in the district which does not come under its ambit, is allegedly responsible for the showcasing of the images of the RSS leader during the "kudamattam" as part of the Pooram festivities.
Military Intelligence personnel have reached the spot and would be directing the investigation into the alleged assault on the soldier.
A senior police officer of the district said the arrest of the two was formally recorded based on the statements given by the soldier -- Shine Kumar -- and his friend. The provisions in the FIR lodged earlier on the soldier's complaint have been altered, the officer also said, but did not give details.
Many in the social media have questioned his motive, while others have said he was doing it just for publicity and some said it was just superstition.
