The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) on Wednesday closed insolvency proceedings against Oyo and one of its subsidiaries, and also disallowed the intervention of external parties including Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI). Industry body FHRAI said in May it has been allowed by the NCLAT to intervene on behalf of hotels in the Oyo unit insolvency case before the tribunal. The association had filed the application on behalf of its member hotels in India, who it said at the time are operational creditors suffering hugely on account of non-payments of debt by Oyo.

A court in Sharjah on Monday waived the death sentence awarded to eight young men from Punjab for the murder of a Pakistani national after a Dubai-based Indian hotelier paid blood money to the family of the victim on their behalf. The murder took place on July 11, 2009 following which 10 men, eight Indians and two Pakistanis, were arrested. The death penalty of the two Pakistani men has also been waived off after Dubai-based hotelier SP Singh Oberoi paid the blood money.

A Delhi court on Saturday cleared decks for the prosecution of hotelier S P Gupta by allowing the city government to withdraw its earlier plea to seek the quashing of three FIRs against him, allegedly at the behest of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. "The court is of the considered view that nothing precludes prosecution from withdrawing its earlier plea for withdrawal of prosecution," said Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Manish Yaduvanshi.
