IT firms across the board say engineering graduates this year are readily accepting job offers unlike in the past years, when they were far more choosy.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the country's largest information technology services company, will hire 50 per cent more students from campuses for 2011-12.
The company also plans to recruit over 3,000 people on onsite in countries like Brazil, Uruguay, China and in Latin America, among others.
"We have reduced the time period for improving skills. Earlier, if an employee would show even a small improvement, we would give an extension of a few more months. Henceforth, that will not be done," said Ajoy Mukherjee, vice-president and head, global human resources. The company will consider an employee's performance for the past three years so as to maintain consistency.
TCS said trainees joining it this fiscal would not be eligible for variable pay of about Rs 5,000 a month in the first six months.
