Valentino Rossi won the French Grand Prix on Sunday to celebrate a record-equalling 90th victory and take the lead in the MotoGP world championship. The Italian, who started from the second row on a rainy day, finished comfortably ahead of Spanish team mate Jorge Lorenzo. American Colin Edwards completed a Yamaha sweep of the podium places with third.

The Italian's Yamaha mate Jorge Lorenzo was second, just over three seconds behind the winner, and Toni Elias of Spain finished third on his Ducati.

Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo clinched his first MotoGP win after a thrilling duel with compatriot Dani Pedrosa at the MotoGP of Portugal at the Estoril circuit on Sunday. Seven times world champion Valentino Rossi was third in the 28-lap, 117.096-km race. Lorenzo, on a Yamaha, clocked 45 minutes 53.089 seconds, 1.817 seconds faster than Pedrosa, on a Honda.
