A court in Bandipora district, Jammu and Kashmir, has acquitted three individuals accused of harbouring terrorists involved in the killing of a BJP leader and his family in 2020, citing insufficient evidence.
The National Investigation Agency has arrested four terror associates during searches at 18 locations in Jammu and Kashmir following the registration of a case to unearth a conspiracy hatched by various terror groups to carry out attacks in the Union territory and other major cities, including New Delhi, an official said on Wednesday.
Three weapons have been recovered from them.
Three Hurriyat Conference leaders were taken into custody, as police foiled the separatists plan to march in connection with Martyrs day on Monday.
"Four policemen, three Central Reserve Police Force personnel and four civilians were injured in the terror attack."
He said one civilian, Waseem Ahmad Mir, also sustained bullet injury 'in the nearby area' and later succumbed at a hospital on Friday.
Waseem Shah, who was wanted in various terror-related cases, was killed along with Naseer, another local boy who had joined the insurgency in May this year.
The official said five civilians received bullet injuries in the cross-firing near the gunfight site.
Nine security force personnel were injured in the firing by the terrorists, they said adding five of them succumbed to injuries.
A total of 123 candidates, including seven ministers of Congress-National Conference coalition, eight former ministers and legislators are in fray for the Jammu and Kashmir's first phase of elections scheduled later this month.
