Goa Fisheries Director S C Verenkar on Thursday said the eight trawlers were missing mid-sea, a day after an intense search operation was launched by defence forces to locate them. According to the local fishermens' society, the two trawlers plying from Mallim jetty sank due to the cyclone. One of the trawlers was carrying 29 crew members.
A fresh outbreak of bird flu was reported from Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Friday, prompting the authorities to launch a culling operation, as the Union health ministry rushed a central team to the state.
