The Karnataka high Court on Friday ordered issue of notices to the Lokayukta police and the complainants in two anticipatory bail applications filed by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa in two private complaints filed before the Lokayukta court in alleged land scam cases.
The case was registered against the veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader by Lokayukta police in 2015 based on the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
In a major relief for Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Supreme Court on Friday stayed the criminal proceedings against him in his case of allegedly 'denigrating' a Hindu god by posing as Lord Vishnu on the cover page of a magazine. Dhoni has also sought the transfer of the case against him from Anantapur to Bengaluru and the apex court has issued a notice on the same. The interim relief comes after a court in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh had issued a non-bailable warrant against the cricketer. In September last year, the Supreme Court had stayed the criminal proceedings against Dhoni and also issued notice to social activist Jayakumar Hiremath, who had filed the case against the cricketer.
In a relief to cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Supreme Court on Monday stayed criminal proceedings against him on a complaint lodged for allegedly portraying himself as Lord Vishnu on a magazine cover.
In January 2016, Dhoni was issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for being shown as Lord Vishnu on the cover of Business Today magazine in April 2013.
The non-bailable warrant issued against India's limited overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in a case of hurting religious sentiments was withdrawn by a local court in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. "The court that had issued a non-bailable warrant against cricketer MS Dhoni under the pretext of posing as Lord Vishnu on the cover page of Business Today magazine has recalled the issued warrant," stated a media release issued by Dhoni's management firm Rhiti Sports. "Our legal team led by Mr. Rajneesh Chopra on Tuesday moved an application before the local court in Ananthpur, Andhra Pradesh, thereby seeking cancellation of the non-bailable warrant as issued against the cricketer by the local court vide its order dated 07.01.2016," it further said. The non-bailable warrant was issued against Dhoni for non-appearance before the court on January 7.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni hasn't received any summons from a local court in Andhra Pradesh that he has been accused of ignoring, his lawyer Rajneesh Chopra said on Friday, insisting that the non-bailable warrant issued against India's cricket team captain is "erroneous".
