The Army killed two militants who were trying to infiltrate into India in Kupwara district on Wednesday morning.A group of heavily-armed militants tried to sneak into the Indian side at Tangdhar, 140 kms from Srinagar, a defence spokesman said. On noticing their movement, troops challenged them and in the subsequent encounter, two militants were killed.The encounter was still going on when the last reports came in.

At least one soldier of the Rashtriya Rifles was killed and another was injured in an encounter in the Rajwad forests of Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning.This is the 30th encounter in the last 90 days in the state. The encounter, which started at approximately 3 pm on Wednesday, was going on even after 20 hours. Based on a tip-off, the Jammu and Kashmir Special Operation Group and the 22nd battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles launched the operation.

A passer-by was injured when militants attacked a Central Reserve Police Force bunker with a hand grenade in north Kashmir's Sopore town on Friday afternoon. The militants targeted a bunker of the CRPF, located outside the State Bank of India building in the heart of Sopore, said a senior police officer. A civilian was injured when the hand grenade exploded.The injured civilian, identified as Tanveer Ahmad, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

R K Birdi, the Border Security Force commanding officer arrested in Srinagar last week in connection with the killing of a 17-year old schoolboy was on Monday admitted to the BSF hospital in Srinagar, after he complained of chest pain.On Saturday, Birdi was remanded to ten days judicial custody by the chief judicial magistrate in Srinagar and subsequently he was shifted to the high-security central jail.Official sources said that Birdi complained of chest pain today morning.
