Climatologists at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York City found that 2007 tied with 1998 as Earth's second warmest year in a century. The eight warmest years in the GISS record have all occurred since 1998, and the 14 warmest years record have all occurred since 1990.

The study is the first to estimate how a storm's strength will change in a warming climate.
The global average surface temperature in 2011 was the ninth warmest since 1880, according to NASA scientists. The finding continues a trend in which nine of the 10 warmest years in the modern meteorological record have occurred since the year 2000.
'We need abundant affordable clean energy to help lift out of poverty the remaining part of humanity that is still living in poverty. I don't see any other viable candidate on the scene for doing that except advanced generation nuclear power,' says Dr James Hansen, a stout opponent of energy based on fossil fuels.
"This warming trend is alarming," said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.
Globally averaged temperatures in 2017 were 0.90 degree Celsius warmer than the 1951 to 1980 mean, according to scientists at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York. That is second only to global temperatures in 2016.
