In yet another attack on an Indian in Melbourne, a taxi driver from the community was injured when a drunk Australian star footballer allegedly assaulted him after an altercation. Essendon football player Michael Hurley was arrested for kicking and punching an Indian cabbie outside a fast-food outlet on Hoddle Street. The police arrested Hurley at the scene. The soccer player was later taken to Fitzroy police station and questioned about the incident.

Two taxi drivers were on Monday awarded the death sentence by a Delhi court for killing Australian tourist Dawn Emilie Griggs, after gangraping and robbing her, in 2004.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 each on the two convicts who were held guilty of gangrape, robbery, destruction of evidence and common intention. The court had convicted the two accused on August 2.The court convicted Prasad, 28, and Kumar, in his early 30's, for the various offences.

Luis Arturo Vazquez, 21, pleaded guilty this week to second-degree assault and malicious harassment for the November attack, which left Sukhvir Singh, 48, with a concussion, cuts, bite marks on his scalp and other injuries. Vazquez had been released on a US$ 25,000 bail after the attack.
