The average monthly collection of Mahavitaran during the current financial year was about Rs 1,700 crore (Rs 17 billion). However, in January, it would be less by around Rs 150 crore, said a Mahavitran official.
The aggrieved consumer, Madhav Damle, had filed a complaint demanding a compensation of Rs 50 per hour for loss of power supply amounting to 171 hours between June 3 and 10, 2008. His complaint was rejected by the internal consumer grievance cell of the company.

"Some of the tariffs (rates) at which agreements were signed in 2007 are unrealistic. If you compare those to PPAs signed in 2010, there is a difference of around 50p to Rs 1 (a unit). Companies are looking at the difference and a lot more are likely to try it (renege)," said a power sector analyst.
