The Delhi high court Wednesday told Ramdev that while he was welcome to have his followers, he should not mislead the public by saying more than what is 'official'.
The Indian Medical Association on Monday expressed shock over the 'blatant lie of World Health Organisation certification' for Patanjali's Coronil tablet, which the company claims is an evidence-based medicine to fight COVID-19, and demanded an explanation from Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in whose presence the medicine was launched.
In a tweet, Patanjali Ayurved said, "Moment of pride!! Efforts of scientists at Patanjali to make corona medicine have been successful today. We are pleased to announce the First evidence based medicine for Covid-19 by Patanjali."
Deshmukh said on Twitter that it was "highly deplorable" that two senior Union ministers endorsed the drug.
Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani said that he was not "comfortable" with the present draft clarification given by the yoga guru, remarking that it seemed "more like a pat on the back" and a justification.
The DMA, on behalf of its doctor members, said Ramdev's statement affects as that medicine does not cure coronavirus and it is misleading.
While Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh warned the yoga guru that the state government won't allow the sale of 'spurious' medicines, Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma also said that the state government will not allow the sale of Patanjali's Ayurvedic formulation.
The company claimed that the AYUSH ministry has "categorically agreed" that Patanjali had "appropriately worked on COVID-19 management".
Patanjali Ayurved, in collaboration with NIMS University, launched Coronil and Shwasari Vati, claiming to cure corona patients.
The Patna and Raipur chapters of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) have lodged complaints in 2021 alleging Ramdev's remarks were likely to cause prejudice to Covid control mechanism and may dissuade people from availing proper treatment.
Asokan said Ramdev went against the medical profession by saying "modern medicine is a stupid and bankrupt science".
The Delhi high court on Wednesday issued summons to Ramdev on a lawsuit by several doctors' associations for allegedly spreading misinformation against allopathy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that the plea was not frivolous and a case for its institution was 'definitely' made out.
The notice says the company can restart manufacturing these products only after the authority approves their revised formulation sheets.
"The allegations may be right or maybe wrong. He may say he did not say any such thing... It needs to be looked into," said the judge.
Patanjali Yogpeeth on Thursday confirmed that it has received a defamation notice served by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), demanding an apology from Yoga Guru Ramdev over remarks on modern medicine, and said it will give legally a 'befitting reply'.
