CBI director Ashwani Kumar said the Satyam fraud was unique, as it was the founder, and not an outsider, who is the accused. According to sources, the fraud involves an amount that is much bigger than the Rs 7,800 crore (Rs 78 billion) estimated originally. It could be close to Rs 10,000 crore (Rs 100 billion) based on over 7,000 fake invoices and forged documents retrieved by the agency.

A Delhi Court on Saturday issued notice to the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, seeking his response as to why underworld don Abu Salem was extradited instead of being deported to India from Portugal in 2005, to face trial in criminal cases including the 1992 Mumbai blasts case.The extradition of the don was conditional and came with restrictions on the number of cases on which he could be tried and the quantum of sentence.
