The Sensex opened with a huge negative gap of 433 points at 15,327 on weak cues from the overseas markets. It hit a low of 14,738, and finally ended with a hefty loss of 951 points (6%) at 14,809 - its second biggest single-day fall. ICICI Bank crashed nearly 14%, while HDFC slumped 11%. Hindalco slumped over 9% and Reliance declined over 6%. AMD Industries, Rane Madras, Goldcrest Finance & few others were gainers. Reliance topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 274 cr.

The market breadth was very bearish with almost 80% stocks traded on the BSE ending with losses. Out of 2,646 stocks traded, 2,114 declined, 493 advanced and 39 were unchanged on Wednesday.
The Sensex index dipped below its January low of 15,332, and touched a low of 15,229. The Sensex finally ended the day at a fresh calendar year low of 15,357 - down 771 points (4.8%). The NSE Nifty ended with a loss of 248 points (5%) at 4,624. Other Asian markets were also weak on Thursday. DLF, Reliance Energy, HDFC, Tata Motors, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, TCS, SBI and Wipro were amongst the losers. English Indian Clay, Hisar Metal, Hester Pharma and few others were gainers.
The locally produced top-end model S 500 will be priced at Rs 1.39 crore or Rs 13.9 million (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be rolled out from the manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, Mercedes-Benz India said in a statement, adding that this strategic move will help to cater to the increasing demand.
