Former Bharatiya Janata Party president M Venkaiah Naidu has been appointed vice-president of the party.
BJP spokesperson Arun Jaitley announced this at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday.
"BJP president L K Advani has appointed Naidu as vice-president of the party. He will now be working in official capacity. Till now Naidu was doing so unofficially," he said.
It might be recalled that Naidu had said he would not accept any post in the party.
"Let me make it clear that Naidu had not asked for the post but the party president felt that it would be better if he could be involved in daily functioning of the party chief's office. He has been giving time to the party despite his heavy commitments at home. He will continue to serve the party and look after his family as well," Jaitley explained.
Talking about the inaugural Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus, Jaitley said keeping in view the incident that took place in Srinagar on Wednesday he would appeal to the government to ensure the safety of the bus passengers in future.
"Terrorists in the Valley still feel they can force people to obey them. We should deal with such elements firmly," he said.
Speaking to rediff.com, BJP member of Parliament from Rajasthan Manvendra Singh suggested that the government should talk to Pakistan about opening train services between Monobo in Rajasthan and Khokharabad in Sind.
He said he would write to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh about it and also about opening the bus route between Rajasthan and Karachi.
