Mumbai traffic police are cracking down on the illegal use of VIP vehicle accessories, confiscating dome lights and sirens in a recent operation to combat vehicle impersonation.

Eighty dome lights and three sirens used on private and unauthorized vehicles to make them appear as VIP ones were confiscated by Mumbai traffic police during a 48-hour special drive that ended on Thursday, an official said.
The dome lights confiscated are in red, blue and yellow colours, he said.
Crackdown on Illegal VIP Vehicle Equipment
"These had been installed on top of private and unauthorized vehicles to pass them off as VIP ones. Frequent complaints were being received about this issue. During the drive, teams under ACPs of South Central and Bandra divisions inspected numerous vehicles. Eighty dome lights and three sirens were seized," he said.
"Strict action has been taken against the respective drivers/owners under the Motor Vehicles Act. In serious cases, a recommendation will be made to Regional Transport Office (RTO) to cancel the vehicle's registration, and a criminal case may also be registered," the official added.
Citizens are not supposed to install any unauthorized flashing lights, dome lights, or sirens on their vehicles, the official said.
