Police in Maharashtra's Amravati district have registered a case against former state minister Omprakash alias Bachchu Kadu for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to kill a BJP MLA's brother, an official said on Friday.

The FIR against Kadu has been filed at the Chandur Bazar police station in Achalpur.

 

Kadu was earlier an MLA from the Achalpur assembly constituency, which is currently represented by BJP MLA Pravin Tayade. Kadu served as a minister of state during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Uddhav Thackeray from 2019 to 2022.

As per the complaint lodged by MLA Tayade's brother Abhijit (40), ex-minister Kadu and one Shubham alias Golu Mahure, hatched a conspiracy to kill him in a road accident.

Tayade claimed that he recorded conversations related to the alleged plot on his mobile phone, the police official said.

Another official said, "The complainant has submitted a pen drive containing audio recordings. These have been sent to a forensic laboratory for examination."

Investigation Details

"The allegations are serious, and we are investigating all aspects carefully. Based on the complaint, we have registered an offence against two persons, including Kadu, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 61 (criminal conspiracy), 55 (abetment of offence) and 58 (concealing design to commit offence).

"We are verifying the authenticity of the recordings and collecting further evidence. No conclusions can be drawn at this stage," an officer added.

Kadu heads the Prahar Janshakti Party.
