Severe cold wave continued unabated in Punjab and Haryana even as the region continued to remain engulfed in a thick blanket of fog, adversely affecting normal life.
The minimum temperature in the region hovered between two to three degrees below normal, meteorological office said.
It said that several areas, including Pathankot, Bathinda, Amritsar, Ambala and Sonipat, continued to witness foggy conditions in the morning.
However, residents of Chandigarh witnessed a sunny day today after about a week, bringing some respite from the foggy weather.
The met office said the low pressure prevailing over the northeastern region owing to western disturbances resulted in continous biting cold and dense fog in the region.
It said that dry weather was expected in the region during the next 24 hours.
While several trains passing through Punjab and Haryana reportedly ran behind schedule, the traffic on the nation and state highways was also affected due to poor visibilty on account of foggy conditions.
Among others the trains, which were running late were the Amritsar-bound Barauni and Malwa express and Delhi-bound Jammu mail.
Railway sources said here that the Ambala-bound Unchhar Express was cancelled.
