The opposition in Bihar on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Public Relations department Minister Sitaram Yadav following a case filed by a dalit accusing him of forcible grabbing lands donated by the state government.

Ramjeevan Paswan of Sitamarhi district lodged a first information report with Nanpur police station against Yadav, his son and nine others for grabbing lands donated by the government under the landless farmer category scheme.

Yadav denied his involvement in the case and said it is a conspiracy by his political rivals to defame him.

According to police sources, the case has been filed under different Sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe Atrocities (Prevention) Act.

Sources in the district administration confirmed that 227 acres of land acquired under the Ceiling Act was distributed among 260 beneficiaries of the district.

Paswan further said the minister and his men, last year, had publicly humiliated him and made derogatory remarks against his caste.

Paswan and hundreds like him faced hostile administration and police when he tried to file a case last year. "After that I petitioned the National Human Rights Commission and the National SC/ST Commission for justice. They directed the police to lodge a case against the minister," he said.
