Following a deadly explosion at an illegal firecracker factory in Ludhiana, police have arrested two brothers and launched an investigation into the incident, highlighting the dangers of unregulated manufacturing.

Two brothers have been arrested in connection with the explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Jodhan village here that led to one death and injuries to two others, police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Sazid and Wazid, who were running the unit, they said.

 

The two brothers hail from Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, the police said, adding that they were also searching for their third brother.

Deputy Inspector General Satinder Singh said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Explosive Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A large quantity of crackers were also recovered from the building located near Hambran, 25 km from here.

The explosion occurred on Tuesday evening. Following the explosion, the roof of the building also collapsed.

Kaif Shah (19), an employee at the unit, died in the incident. The injured girl, Alisha, is stable in hospital, while the other injured, Zamil, was discharged after first aid.

The exact cause of the explosion is still unclear, but preliminary investigations suggest a spark or frictional heat may have ignited the potash, the police said, adding that forensic experts are investigating.
