The arrest of Disha Ravi, a 21-year-old climate activist by Delhi Police, has triggered widespread outrage with politicians, activists and academics across the country calling for her immediate release.
Condemning the arrest of the 21-year-old climate activist by the Delhi Police in their probe into toolkit document case, former Union minister and veteran Congress leader P Chidambaram claimed that India is becoming “the theatre of the absurd”.
“The Indian state must be standing on very shaky foundations if Disha Ravi, a 22 year old student of Mount Carmel college and a climate activist, has become a threat to the nation. A ‘took kit’ to support the farmers’ protest is more dangerous than the intrusion by Chinese troops into Indian territory! India is becoming the theatre of the absurd and it is sad that the Delhi Police has become a tool of the oppressors,” P Chidambaram wrote on Twitter.
Using the hashtag ‘India being silenced’, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also took to Twitter on Monday to demand the release of Disha Ravi.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of farmers' unions, has also condemned the arrest of climate activist Disha Ravi and demanded her immediate release.
