Union Panchayati Raj and Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai after he developed chest pain on Wednesday morning.

"His condition is stable and there is nothing to worry about. However, he will be kept under observation at the ICU for the next 24 hours," hospital sources said.

Aiyar, who was on a three-day tour of his constituency Mayiladuthurai in Nagapattinam district, suffered chest pain in the wee hours of Wednesday. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Tiruchirapalli.

After a check-up, he was brought to Chennai by a flight and admitted to the corporate hospital.

Congress MLA Rajkumar, who was accompanying him during the tour, said the Union minister will probably leave for Delhi on Thursday.
