Israel Friday said earthquake-hit Pakistan has accepted its offer of aid and relief material, which would be routed through international aid agencies.

"Pakistani Foreign Ministry has accepted the Israeli offer of aid to quake-hit regions of Pakistan," Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev told PTI.

He said Israel would only provide relief material and route it through international aid agencies.

Earlier, Israeli officials in Jerusalem had said they had not received any response from Islamabad on their offer to help.

American Jewish Congress had said in a statement that Pakistan had accepted quake aid from Israel and US-based Jews.

Some sources linked the AJC release to Pakistani efforts to "play up to the American gallery".

"We have offered assistance and are very keen on providing it on humanitarian grounds. As far as we are concerned, we have not heard anything directly on our offer yet," they said.

In a release on Tuesday, the AJC had said American Jewish organisations, including the American Jewish Congress-Council for World Jewry, the Joint Distribution Committee, and the American Jewish World Service had already begun raising quake relief funds.
