Huma Qureshi was paid more for her special number in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi than she has been paid so far for her full-fledged lead roles.
Sources say the song has been shot on a set in Mumbai's Film City at a cost of approximately Rs 7 crore (Rs 70 million), with more than 150 junior artistes participating.
"It is not just a song for the sake of lessening the dramatic pressure of the plot. Huma's song comes at a crucial juncture in the narration. She carries the story forward," a source tells Subhash K Jha.
This is not the first time Bhansali has shot a song he has composed.
In Goliyon Ki Raas Leela: Ram Leela, the song was performed by Priyanka Chopra in the hope that she would bag the lead in the next. And she bagged Bajirao Mastani soon after.
Apparently, Huma has a major role in Bhansali's Web series Heeramandi. She will also be doing one of the leads alongside Alia Bhatt in Bhansali's Baiju Bawra.
