A Ganesh Nadar in Mumbai | June 30, 2004 16:07 IST

Ekta KapoorAnd now, MTV is into soaps, not only operas!

The music channel and the house of soaps, Balaji Telefilms have come together to produce a teleserial. And a unique serial at that. Auditions for Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi, which has been sponsored by Rai University, will be held at 107 centres, including the cities and towns of India.

The auditions will begin July 1 for a fortnight, at the Rai University campuses across the country, in the language that the aspiring actor is familiar with.

After the first round of auditions, 12 aspirants will be selected for the final round. They will be groomed in acting, facing the camera, makeup and other related activities by Balaji Telefilms head Ekta Kapoor and her team. Six of these finalists will be selected to act in the serial. The serial is scheduled to span 39 episodes and will be aired thrice a week for 13 weeks.

After a late entry into the press meet to announce the serial (being a Tuesday, an auspicious day to visit Mumbai's Siddhi Vinayak temple, she could not forgo a trip), Ekta Kapoor, head of Balaji Telefilms, said, "If Mumbai girls can become stars in the south [India], why can't we have a Tamilian [girl] as a star on our show?"
