The new vehicles have been developed with an investment of Rs 2,900 crore (Rs 29 billion).

While FM9 6x4 and 6x4 tippers would be positioned at the road construction and mining sectors, FM126x4 and FM9 6x2 trucks were suited for containers and petroleum tankers, he said.

The company, which began its operations in India in 1998, has sold 1,600 trucks, 200 buses and 600 units of construction equipment in the country.

The new range of trucks was from Volvo's global product portfolio and had been the group's biggest product overhaul in a decade, Nordqvist said.
