India's largest truck maker, Tata Engineering & Locomotive Co Ltd, said on Wednesday its total vehicle sales in April jumped 55 per cent from a year ago to 14,979 units, despite a truckers strike.
Telco, owned by the powerful Tata group, said in a statement domestic sales of commercial vehicles, or trucks and buses combined, rose 9.3 per cent to 7,048 units.
Mumbai-headquartered Telco makes heavy and light trucks and buses, cars and utility vehicles.
The company sold 5,061 units of its Indica compact car in the month and 1,472 units of its Indigo sedan. Utility vehicle sales rose only marginally to 1,398 units.
Ahead of the announcement, Telco's shares ended up 0.75 per cent at Rs 161.05 on the Bombay Stock Exchange whose benchmark index ended down 0.41 per cent.
