Markets ended the day strong continuing the uptrend, on the back of buying seen in scrips across sectors. Telecom, auto, cement, real estate and power stocks led the rally.
The Sensex closed up 116.09 points or 0.87% at 13399. It has touched an intra day high of 13,410.08 and an intra day low of 13,287.28.
The Nifty was up 24 points or 0.63% at 3858.75.
About 1443 shares advanced, 1067 shares declined, and 70 shares remained unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index was up 0.84% or 47.18 points at 5,643.39. The BSE Small Cap Index gained 1.2% or 78.36 points at 6,582.96.
The BSE Auto Index was up 0.82% or 43.77 points at 5,367.41. MRF, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Escorts, Apollo Tyres firmed up.
The BSE Bankex was up 0.85% or 57.29 points at 6,793.86. Centurion BoP, Kotak Mahindra, UTI Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank closed up.
The BSE Capital Goods Index gained 0.69% or 61.05 points at 8,892.24. Gammon India, Ingersoll Rand, HEG, Crompton Greave and Dredging Cor ended up.
The BSE FMCG Index ended flat 0.05% or 0.98 points at 2,073.52. Colgate, Dabur India, Britannia, P and G, Nirma moved up.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.52% or 19.57 points at 3,785.65. Divis Labs, Glenmark, Orchid Chemical, Sterling Bio, Nicholas Piramal gained.
The BSE IT Index was up 0.73% or 35.25 points at 4,894.54. HCL Info, Mphasis BFL, Patni Computer, Wipro, Infosys closed positve.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed flat 0.13% or 8.16 points at 6,272.24. GAIL, Chennai Petro, Reliance Natura, Petronet LNG ended in green
However, the BSE Metal Index was down 1.32% or 121.93 points at 9,098.07. Hind Zinc, Nalco, Guj NRE Coke, SAIL and Sterlite Ind slipped.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6727.48 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 20942.94 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3926.07 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 31596.49 crore.
