Sensex closes at 5,962, down 64 points

Heavy selling towards the closing bell saw the Sensex end with a huge loss of a per cent (64 points) at 5,962.

 

The Nifty ended 21 points lower at 1,871.

Reliance slumped 3.4% (Rs 18) to Rs 527 following reports of rift between Ambani brothers regarding ownership issue.

 

HLL ended a per cent lower at Rs 133. ITC, however, gained a per cent (Rs 11) at Rs 1,140.

Wipro and Satyam slipped 1.3% each to Rs 712 and Rs 423,

respectively. Infosys was down Rs 12 at Rs 2,055.

HPCL tumbled 3.3% (Rs 12) to Rs 344. ONGC shed Rs 7 to Rs 787.

SBI declined 2.2% (Rs 11) to Rs 510, and ICICI Bank was down 1.4% (Rs 5) at Rs 326. HDFC Bank, however, added Rs 2 to Rs 480.

HDFC advanced a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 715.

Tisco declined 1.2% (Rs 4) to Rs 308, and Hindalco was down 1.2% (Rs 16) at Rs 1,271.

Larsen & Toubro dropped 1.4% (Rs 12) to Rs 847, and Bhel shed 1.2% (Rs 7) to Rs 604.

Ranbaxy plunged 1.9% (Rs 20) to Rs 1,035. Dr.Reddy's ended 1.3% (Rs 11) lower at Rs 789, and Cipla finished Rs 2 lower at Rs 265.

Tata Motors crashed 1.9% (Rs 8) to Rs 437. Bajaj Auto and Maruti tumbled 1.7% each to Rs 982 and Rs 381, respectively. Hero Honda was down a rupee at Rs 441.

Gujarat Ambuja was down a per cent Rs 3 at Rs 353, and Grasim ended Rs 2 lower at Rs 1,111. ACC added a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 272.

Reliance Energy tripped 1.2% (Rs 8) to Rs 621. Tata Power rallied a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 323.

Zee spurted a per cent (Rs 2) to Rs 157.
