Sensex closes at 5,997, up 33 points

The Sensex gained 33 points at 5,997.

The Nifty was up eight points at 1,881.

Infosys rallied 1.2% (Rs 23) to Rs 2,049. Satyam surged 2.2% (Rs 9) to Rs 414, and Wipro soared 2% (Rs 14) to Rs 707.

HLL added 1.2% (Rs 2) to Rs 136, and Reliance finished flat at Rs 545. ITC was down a rupee at Rs 1,148.

ONGC plunged 2.5% (Rs 20) to Rs 796. HPCL soared 2.4% (Rs 8) to Rs 355.

HDFC Bank zoomed 3.3% (Rs 16) to Rs 484, and SBI surged 2.6% (Rs 13) to Rs 505. ICICI Bank advanced 1.5% (Rs 5) to Rs 320.

Hindalco moved up Rs 3 to Rs 1,295, and Tisco added Rs 2 to Rs 309.

Ranbaxy slipped 2.2% (Rs 25) to Rs 1,072. Cipla was down a rupee at Rs 278, and Dr.Reddy's dropped Rs 2 to Rs 774.

Bajaj Auto and Tata Motors zoomed 2.7% and 2.4% to Rs 1,020 and Rs 440, respectively. Maruti surged 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 389, and Hero Honda gained Rs 3 at Rs 441.

Bharti Tele declined Rs 2 to Rs 162.

The BSE BANKEX zoomed 2.5% to 3,020. The BSE Auto index rallied 2% to 2,452, and the BSE TECk index gained a per cent at 1,623. While the BSE FMCG and Metal indices posted marginal gains at 956 and 5,206, respectively, the BSE PSU index posted marginal loss at 3,801.
