Sensex up 88 points at close

The Sensex soared 88 points to 5,843. The Nifty ended 23 points higher at 1,837.

Satyam soared 4.6% (Rs 17) to Rs 391. Infosys rallied 2.7% (Rs 52) to Rs 1,962. Wipro finished 2.3% (Rs 15) higher at Rs 675.

ITC gained a per cent (Rs 11) at Rs 1,136. Reliance was up a rupee at Rs 544, and HLL closed unchanged at Rs 128.

ONGC added 1.3% (Rs 10) to Rs 799. HPCL was up Rs 3 at Rs 311.

SBI surged 3.9% (Rs 18) to Rs 488, and ICICI Bank zoomed 3.6% (Rs 11) to Rs 308. HDFC Bank advanced nearly 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 428.

HDFC rallied 2.8% (Rs 18) to Rs 667.

Tisco spurted over 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 299. Hindalco moved up 1.4% (Rs 17) to Rs 1,242.

Larsen & Toubro added 1.2% (Rs 10) to Rs 831. Bhel was up Rs 4 at Rs 635.

Dr.Reddy's surged 1.9% (Rs 14) to Rs 768. While Ranbaxy was up Rs 4 at Rs 1,127, Cipla was down Rs 2 to Rs 277.

Grasim gained 1.5% (Rs 16) at Rs 1,140. ACC ended Rs 2 higher at Rs 264, while Gujarat Ambuja lost a rupee to Rs 351.

Auto

stocks ended more or less on a flat note.

Reliance Energy gained a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 638.

Zee zoomed over 4% (Rs 6) to Rs 154.50.
