Sensex up 83 points at close

The Sensex extended its rally today, and finally settled at 5,561 - up 83 points. The Nifty finished 28 points higher at 1,734.

Reliance was the star performer of the day. The stock gained 3.7% (Rs 18) to Rs 509. ITC surged 2.8% (Rs 32) to Rs 1,174. HLL ended 1.6% (Rs 2) higher at Rs 126.

Satyam was the major loser, among the Sensex stocks today. The scrip ended 1.7% (Rs 7) lower at Rs 380. Infosys was down Rs 6 at Rs 1,689. Wipro, however, finished Rs 2 higher at Rs 592.

ONGC rallied 2.2% (Rs 16) to Rs 746, HPCL ws up Rs 3 at Rs 327.

ICICI Bank and SBI advanced over 3% each to Rs 275 and Rs 481, respectively. HDFC Bank was up 1.7% (Rs 7) at Rs 402.

HDFC was up 1.8% (Rs 11) at Rs 617.

Tata Motors zoomed over 4% (Rs 17) to Rs 406,

following the news that stock will be listed on the NYSE by this year end. Bajaj Auto moved higher to Rs 940 - up Rs 7, and Maruti was up Rs 3 at Rs 358. Hero Honda, however, ended a rupee lower at Rs 458.

Tisco spurted over 2% (Rs 6) to Rs 280, and Hindalco was marginally up at Rs 1,235.

Tata Power rallied 3% (Rs 9) to Rs 303.

Ranbaxy declined Rs 6 to Rs 1,082. While Cipla closed a rupee lower at Rs 270, Dr.Reddy's was unchanged at Rs 759.

Bharti Tele flared up nearly 3% (Rs 4) to close at Rs 150. MTNL was flat at Rs 128. Zee gained a per cent at Rs 157.
