The Sensex ended 18 points higher at 5,265. The Nifty was up six points at 1,650.
HLL gained 2.6% (Rs 3) at Rs 115. Reliance advanced 1.7% (Rs 8) to Rs 485, and ITC was up Rs 7 at Rs 1,042.
Wipro rallied 1.5% (Rs 8) at Rs 592, and Infosys was up Rs 9 at Rs 1,616. Satyam, however, was down Rs 3 at Rs 363.
HDFC Bank and SBI advanced over a per cent each to Rs 382 and Rs 467,
respectively. ICICI Bank, however, was down Rs 2 at Rs 263.
MTNL was the major loser among the Sensex stocks. The scrip ended almost 4% (Rs 5) lower at Rs 120.
