The Sensex closed 28 points higher at 5,246. The Nifty was up 10 points at 1,644.
Reliance gained Rs 3 at Rs 477. While HLL was up a per cent at Rs 112, ITC posted marginal loss at Rs 1,034 - down Rs 4.
Satyam spurted over 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 366. Infosys and Wipro were almost flat at Rs 1,607 and Rs 584, respectively.
Zee
started the day on a bouyant note following the news that the company has bagged the telecast rights for Indian cricket. The stock zoomed to an intra-day high of Rs 172. However, consistent profit-taking at the counter saw the scrip pare most of its gains and close 1.8% higher (Rs 3) at Rs 162.
Bhel slumped over 3% (Rs 18) to close at Rs 574.
