The Sensex on Friday closed with a loss of 112 points at 4,833. The Nifty also ended 36 points lower at 1,508.
The index, which opened with a negative gap of 14 points at 4,931, later touched an intra-day low of 4,823.
Reliance dropped 3.5% (Rs 16) to close at Rs 432. ITC shed Rs 4 to finish at 888. HLL was down marginally at Rs 129.
Infosys, Wipro and Satyam were down 3% at Rs 5,088, Rs 301 and Rs 1,477, respectively.
HPCL dropped nearly 3% (Rs 9) to Rs 348. ONGC was down 2% (Rs 13) at Rs 638.
BHEL and MTNL were down a per cent at Rs 455 and Rs 130, respectively.
Maruti and Bharti Tele-Ventures plunged nearly 6% to Rs 389 and Rs 142, respectively. HDFC Bank dropped 5% (Rs 18.50) to close at Rs 360.
