Sensex gains 48 points at close

The Sensex on Thursday opened with a positive gap of 12 points at 5888. It slipped into the red soon, touching an intra-day low of 5864.

However, renewed buying in select stocks saw the index breaching the 5900 level. It touched an intra day high of 5947.

The index finally finished with a gain of 48 points at 5924. The Nifty ended 16 points higher at 1889.

Reliance ended the day with a marginal gain at Rs 569. While HLL ended the day 1% lower at Rs 152, ITC was up marginally at Rs 1078.

Infosys closed with a loss of Rs 40 at Rs 5385. While Satyam was down Rs 2 at Rs 331, Wipro gained Rs 13 to finish at Rs 1610.

Among PSUs, MTNL zoomed nearly 9.5% (Rs 14) to end at Rs 162. HPCL, ONGC and SBI also ended with gains.

Pharma, auto and cement stocks also ended with decent gains on the bourses today.
