"Satellite design is going on. It requires a huge antenna to be deployed in space and also high power. So, it is in the process", G Madhavan Nair, chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation told PTI in Bangalore."
The unfurlable antenna is one of the major elements in that", added Nair, who is also secretary in the department of space.
He said it would take two years before the satellite gets ready for launch. Dr K N Shankara, director of ISRO satellite centre, Bangalore, said the proposed spacecraft is a "multimedia" one.
Making of unfurlable antenna needs new technology, which ISRO is developing, Shankara said on the sidelines of an international conference on electromagnetic interference and compatibility in Bangalore.
"In any (present generation) satellite...because of envelope, you cannot put an antenna which is more than 2.5 metre high ", he explained.
"We need much more than that. You have to unfurl it when it's launched in space. So, that's a technology we are developing".
