Petrol, diesel prices to zoom

Government-owned oil firms on Saturday increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs 1.10 and Rs 1.42 per litre respectively in step with the rise in international fuel prices.

The first price revision after the government granted limited freedom to oil companies to fix prices within a 10 per cent band without referring to it would see petrol prices in Delhi going up by Rs 1.10 per litre to Rs 36.81.

Similarly, diesel would cost Rs 24.16 as against Rs 22.74 a litre presently.

The new prices will come into effect from midnight.

The United Progressive Alliance government had on June 15 announced a Rs 2 per litre increase in petrol prices and Re one per litre hike in diesel prices. In the subsequent two fortnights the prices were not revised despite rise in cost as a new pricing mechanism was under finalisation.

Petrol prices in Mumbai will go up by Rs 1.19 per litre to Rs 42.15 while diesel will cost Rs 30.31 a litre against Rs 28.62.

In Kolkata, a litre of petrol will cost Rs 39.83 as compared to Rs 38.69. Diesel price will go up by Rs 1.48 to Rs 26.51 a litre.

A Rs 1.19 per litre hike will see petrol being sold at Rs 40.15 in Chennai and diesel will be priced at Rs 26.93 per litre as against Rs 25.35.
