The number of active Internet subscribers in terms of entities increased marginally to 1.30 million in September 2002 against 1.29 million in March 2002.
Dial-up remains the most commonly used means of accessing Internet among businesses even though the proportion of businesses using dial-up has dropped from 74 per cent in March 2002 to 72 per cent in September 2002, a Manufacturers Association of Information Technology survey said on Thursday.
The penetration of Internet among businesses was 40 per cent while that in households, it was 11 per cent, it said adding the access through cable link increased to nine per cent from six per cent while that of leased lines dropped from eight to six per cent.
The business segment now contributes 48 per cent of the total active Internet subscribers and households accounted for the remaining 52 per cent, it said.
