Mobile user base up at 3.4 crore in April

Mobile user base, both GSM and CDMA, went up to 3.4 crore during April this year with GSM based cellular operators capturing 2.71 crore subscribers and CDMA based operators like Reliance and Tatas 74.16 lakh.

According to the latest figures released by the two respective associations -- COAI and ABTO -- Reliance

Infocomm's subscriber base went up to over 75 lakh (7.5 million), of which 67.37 lakh (6.7 million) were CDMA based users and 810,000 were GSM subscribers.

Sunil Mittal promoted Bharti group, which offers only GSM based cellular services, notched a subscriber base of 67.59 lakh (6.8 million).

Tata Teleservices added about 5809 CDMA mobile users to touch a user base of 619,000, out of its total subscriber base of 16.96 lakh (1.7 million), which includes wireline and fixed wireless.

According to the latest subscriber base figures released by Cellular Operators Association of India, subscriber additions during April was 990,000. This is a 28 per cent decline from the average Jan-March 2004 figures and a 34 per cent decline from March 2004.

At 67.58 lakh (^.8 million) user base, Bharti had a market share of 24.89 per cent in April 2004. It added 254,000 subscribers during the month.
