Jet Airways on Tuesday said it would commence its daily direct service on the Chennai-Singapore sector from December 7, using next generation Boeing B737-800 aircraft.

This will be their second international flight out of Chennai. The first was on the Chennai-Kuala Lumpur-Chennai sector, launched in last July.

As a special inaugural offer, the airline announced a return fare of Rs 46,060 in the Club Premiere class and Rs 12,000 in the economy class.

Announcing the new flight, Jet Airways COO Peter Leuthi said that the carrier hoped to have a steady 75 per cent seat load factor within three months of operations in the new sector.

While the focus would be on domestic sector operations, like flights to new routes in India, more frequencies and same day return flights, the airline would also take advantage of international operations, he said.

"Domestic service is our core business. But eventually, with the induction of more aircraft, we also want to leverage on international routes", he said.

Leuthi said introduction of a flight on the Chennai-Kuala Lumpur-Chennai sector "has been very successful as far as economy class is concerned, with 75-80 per cent seat load factor. But we could do more work on the business class".
