UTStarcom, a global provider of wireless and wireline access and IP switching solutions, on Wednesday announced its plans to invest $25 million in its development centre at Bangalore.

The expansion would encompass doubling employee strength at the facility to 150 engineers in the next two months, a company release said.

The Bangalore development centre would undertake "core" research and design to support UTStarcom's 2G and 3G CDMA data, voice-over-IP and personal communication management system solutions.

"With the expansion of the facility, about 50 per cent of global development work relating to these product lines will now be handled in India," it said.

Commenting on the development, Ruchir Godura, country manager and director of South Asian operations, UTStarcom, said, "India is a strategic market for UTStarcom and our research and development investments in India reiterate our commitment to the country and our customers."
