IIT, Kanpur develops new technology for Railways

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has developed a new passenger-friendly technology under the Railway Technology Mission.

The technology will be unveiled by Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh at a function in New Delhi on September 15, Sanjay Govind Dhande, Director, IIT Kanpur, said in a statement in Kanpur.

The technology allows a waiting passenger to see on television screen the exact location of a train and the time at which it would arrive at a particular station, he said.

information can also be made available on Internet and telephone, Dhande said.

The institute took up the research in this regard following a request from railway and HRD ministries.

Dhande said the IIT, Kanpur had developed various advanced communications techniques for the Railways in the past.
