Cellular major Hutchinson Max Telecom Pvt Ltd on Thursday launched Mobile Hutch Shops in India, a customer service and information unit on wheels, which the company expects would supplement its existing retail and customer care centres in the country.

"Customers will now be able to walk into any of these shops, parked at key locations, and avail services including registration, activation, change of rate plans, payment issues and change of mobile numbers among others," Hutchinson Essar managing director Asim Ghosh told reporters in Mumbai.

The company plans to launch four mobile units in Gujarat and two in Mumbai in the next couple of months, and around 30 units across the country by the end of 2004, he said.

The vehicles have online connectivity through general packet radio service and are 'one-stop-shop' access point for customers, he said.

The mobile shops, which cost Rs 30 lakh (Rs 3 million) per unit, has been designed by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and was built by bus body builders, Naushad Wadia.
