The steering committee on foreign direct investment has recommended enhancement of foreign direct investment limit in domestic airlines sector from 40 per cent to 49 per cent.

This was stated in Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Shripad Naik. He said the committee had been constituted by the Planning Commission.

Naik said the Parliamentary standing committee had, after a scrutiny, tabled its report on the Airports Authority of India (Amendment)

Bill. The legislation is for making provision for leasing of airports.

In written replies to other questions, Naik said proposals for setting up of alternative airports in Delhi and Mumbai had been received from the state governments, though no decision had been taken yet in the matter.
