November 15, 2005 13:52 IST

Dow Corning Corporation on Monday announced that it would set up a manufacturing facility in Pune at the MIDC Industrial Park in Ranjangaon.

The new plant, which is scheduled to be operational in 2006, will manufacture value-added products for the Indian and Asian market, including polymers, lubricants, sealants, and emulsions.

To provide innovative solutions to suit customer needs, an application engineering technical services laboratory has been established at the Pune site. The laboratory serves as a venue for local and international enterprises to embrace cutting-edge technologies in partnership with Dow Corning's technical professionals.

"Thanks to our customers, we have been fortunate to enjoy excellent growth and increasing demand in India," explained Raj Kapur, managing director of Dow Corning India Pvt. Ltd. "This new facility will help us support the needs of local and multinational customers, and is an important part of our growth plans for India and for Asia."

"Dow Corning has been serving various Indian industries for over 20 years and the construction of this new manufacturing facility validates our long-term commitment to this emerging region," Kapur said. "We see significant potential for silicon-based materials, technologies and solutions in this dynamic, fast-expanding market."

The new plant will help Dow Corning address the soaring global demand for silicon-based materials in a wide variety of industries and emerging markets. Particularly in Asia, the growth in the last few years has been outstanding, and it is anticipated that this growth will continue.

The new plant will serve as a platform for growth by providing manufacturers with silicon-based products, technologies and solutions to compete in the global marketplace. Dow Corning's products and solutions are designed to spur the growth of many of India's leading domestic manufacturers.

A global leader in silicon-based technology and innovation, the company offers more than 7,000 products and services, Dow Corning is equally owned by The Dow Chemical Company and Corning, Incorporated.

More than half of Dow Corning's annual sales are outside the US. Dow Corning India Pvt Ltd was established in February 2000 after acquiring its former joint venture company.
