Bird China, the largest mobile phone manufacturer of China, will set up a telecom software development centre in Bangalore, a company official said on Wednesday.

Jean-Alexis Chatelain, director, Bird China, told reporters in Kolkata that the centre would be set up in 2004.
When asked whether the company has any plan to set up any mobile manufacturing facility in India, he said there were no immediate programmes as such.
The company on Wednesday launched GSM handsets in the city under the brand name Bird.
The official said that Bird was also looking at the possibility of entering the CDMA handset market in India.
He said that the company expects to sell around 35,000 units in India in the current financial year. In the next financial year, the company plans to sell 200,000 to 300,000 units, he said.
The global turnover of the Chinese company was $1 billion.
Bird has tied up with Agrani Convergence of Essel Group for the distribution of handsets.
