Indian cellular customers can soon look forward to a new range of handsets, with Taiwanese telecom company DBTEL announcing on Thursday its plans to launch 10-11 mobile phones, including low-end models starting from about Rs 4000-4500, in the market by November-end.
"We will be introducing 10-11 new cellular phones in India for low, medium and high end segments sometime in the last week of November," Lewis Tu, director of DBTEL told reporters at a conference in New Delhi.
Although the company is not revealing the price of its new handsets till the November launch, Tu indicated that the low-end models would roughly be in the range of Rs 4000-4500.
The company has appointed Chennai based Munoth Communication Ltd as its distributor in India, he said, adding that DBTEL Group also intended to establish a subsidiary or a branch office in India in near future.
Dubbing India as the second largest mobile phone market in Asia, Tu said the company planned to notch 20 per cent marketshare by end of 2004.
"In terms of units, we plan to ship 1.8 million units by end of next year," he added but did not divulge the specifics of cellphone models that would be introduced in India.
