Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd will provide six crore new mobile telephone connections across the country within the next four years, its director (planning and new services) R L Dube said on Saturday.
Tenders had already been floated to reach the target, Dube said at the ISO 9001:2000 certificate award presentation ceremony to its Gopalpur telecom factory.
Stating that 40,000 new towers were required to be erected for the purpose, he called for increasing production in all the seven telecom factories of BSNL across the country.
Dube said BSNL was targeting 14 crore (140 million) new mobile connections in the near future.
BSNL would pump in about Rs 1000 crore (Rs 10 billion) for its factories in Kolkata, Mumbai and Jabalpur during the year for production of new equipments and materials, he said.
He said the annual turnover from the factories was expected to double from the present Rs 300 crore (Rs 3 billion) to around Rs 600 crore (Rs 6 billion) within the next year.
